Larder & Coal is a contemporary take on the classic British gastropub. Located in London, it brings together age-old recipes and elevated hospitality, celebrating the flavours of the countryside with a fresh, refined perspective. Think slow-aged meats, bone marrow with sourdough, Yorkshire puddings done properly, and plating that respects tradition without being bound by it.

The founders approached Seven52 with a clear vision: to create a brand identity that felt heritage-driven, but not dated. Something grounded in British culinary tradition, but designed for a modern, design-conscious audience. The result is a brand that pairs quiet confidence with timeless detail, just like the menu it represents.

Rooted in Heritage, Refined in Execution

At the heart of Larder & Coal is a respect for craft. From the ingredients to the interiors, everything is considered, honest, and rooted in provenance. The brand needed to reflect this from the outset, not with clichés or overworked motifs, but through restraint, tone, and timeless structure.

We developed a brand identity built around simplicity and substance. The logo is traditional in character but modern in proportion, designed to sit comfortably across everything from signage and menus to etched glass and cast ironware. A rich colour palette of deep greens, charcoal greys, and warm neutrals reflects both the natural British landscape and the interior materials: oak, brass, and stone.

Typography was chosen to evoke history with clarity. Serif fonts with subtle character paired with clean, contemporary typefaces strike the right balance between heritage and modern hospitality. The tone of voice is considered, understated, and quietly confident. It speaks with the kind of poise you expect from a restaurant that knows what it’s doing, without needing to shout about it.

A Brand System That Complements the Space

We delivered a full identity system to support every aspect of the restaurant’s brand expression. From primary and secondary logos to colour codes, type pairings, and layout guidance, the system was built for elegance and consistency.

Applications spanned across menus, wine lists, signage, reservations, staff uniforms, and branded goods, designed to sit effortlessly within boutique interiors inspired by countryside manors and classic British pubs. Every detail was intended to enhance the atmosphere without overpowering it.

The brand is tactile, grounded, and inviting. It’s designed to feel familiar yet elevated, traditional yet fresh, mirroring the experience of the venue itself.
